Last Tuesday, Fond Du Lac District Attorney Eric Toney announced that he will be running for a second time for the Wisconsin Attorney General’s seat.
Toney, will be running against Democratic Incumbent Josh Kaul. Toney lost to Kaul in the 2022 election by just over 1% of the vote. Kaul announced earlier in the month that he will be seeking another 4-year term, dismissing the rumors of a gubernatorial run.
“As your top cop, I will stand up for every Wisconsinite, putting public safety over politics and enforce the law without fear and without favor,” Toney told supporters at an event held at the Waukesha County Courthouse on Oct. 21.
Toney has pledged to support law enforcement, inducing the border control/enforcement officers who he believes have not been supported by Kaul. Also, Toney wants to target the crime lab, to reduce the spread of crime in Milwaukee that he says spreads across Wisconsin. (RELATED: Wisconsin Rep. Tom Tiffany Launches Campaign for Governor)
“Now for nearly seven years, we’ve seen a record of broken promises from our Attorney General, and we’ve seen the consequences of that related to the Wisconsin crime labs, something that he campaigned on, that was addressing our crime labs and addressing opioids here in Wisconsin, — there are direct consequences that touch every community, every law enforcement agency in our court systems, in all 72 Wisconsin counties,” said Toney according to Wisconsin Right Now.
“By the grace of God — and years of running — my heart held on,” Toney said in a press release announcing his campaign. “That clarity led me here: If I could still make a difference for Wisconsin, I would. After seven years of broken promises and political spin in the Attorney General’s Office, it’s time for change.”
Toney, is only a couple years out of having open heart surgery. Toney contracted Myocarditis, and an infection in his heart that plagued his aortic valve. After multiple consultations, Toney elected to have the valve replaced and has been healthy since. (RELATED: Poll Finds Increasing Blame on Democrats for Continued Shutdown)
