Democrats Claim Indigenous People’s Day Over Columbus Day
Wisconsin Democrats fall in line with the attempt to remove Columbus Day

On Monday, Wisconsin Democrats took to social media to celebrate “Indigenous People’s Day” in place of Christopher Columbus Day.

Columbus Day is a celebration of Italian explorer Christopher Columbus landing and discovering the Americas in 1492. Since 1934, the federal holiday inducted by Franklin D Roosevelt, has been celebrated by Americans since the founding of the Union.

However, Democrats in cities across the nation have been pushing to repeal Columbus Day in favor of “Indigenous People’s Day.” The celebration of “Columbus Day” has been labeled as racist because of the conquering practices of the European nations of that time.  (RELATED: Senator Johnson Announces Pledge to Donate Paychecks to Joseph Fund During Shutdown)

In response to the celebration of Columbus, South Dakota was the first state to throw away Columbus Day in substitution for their “Native Americans Day.” Instead of what could be used as an opportunity to teach American history and the tragedies that occurred, has turned into an erasing of history.

Wisconsin Democrats have only commemorated Indigenous Peoples Day on October 13th. Governor Tony Evers signed a statewide proclamation designating Monday as Indigenous Peoples Day. The official Wisconsin Democrats X account also made a post celebrating the alternative holiday. Both posts made no reference to Christopher Columbus or the fact that today is federally recognized as Columbus Day.

On Thursday, President Trump signed a proclamation declaring October 13th, “Columbus Day,” as cities and states across the nation renamed the holiday. (RELATED: Critics Question Latest Wisconsin Test Scores)

“This Columbus Day, we honor his life with reverence and gratitude, and we pledge to reclaim his extraordinary legacy of faith, courage, perseverance, and virtue from the left-wing arsonists who have sought to destroy his name and dishonor his memory,” said Trump

President Trump also goes on to commemorate Italian-Americans, who celebrate this day passionately. “As we celebrate his legacy, we also acknowledge the contributions of the countless Italian-Americans who, like him, have endlessly contributed to our culture and our way of life.  To this day, the United States and Italy share a special bond rooted in the timeless values of faith, family, and freedom,” said President Trump.
