The Wisconsin dairy industry won a major victory in a rift with Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul in a showdown over Kaul retaining out-of-state regulators.
The Calumet County Circuit Court ruled that a lawsuit brought by the Wisconsin Dairy Alliance is allowed to move forward, agreeing that the Dairy Alliance has standing to sue Kaul and out-of-state regulators that he retained for environmental litigation.
The lawsuit stems from a 2021 agreement allowing New York University’s “State Energy and Environmental Impact Center” to serve as a Special Assistant Attorney General for environmental litigation. (RELATED: Democratic Governor Joins the MAHA Movement)
Kaul’s agreement with NYU’s Environmental Impact Center has continually fueled controversy and even allegations that he acted unethically, as the Assistant Attorney General position was largely funded from out of state liberal donor Michael Bloomberg.
Wisconsin attorney Lane Ruhland, who assisted the Wisconsin Dairy Alliance in filing their lawsuit, said the decision to retain attorneys from NYU calls into question whether “the Wisconsin Department of Justice is for sale.”
NYU’s Environmental Impact Center has raised red flags all the way in Washington D.C as House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky. announced an investigation into the Center in July.
The dairy industry has been one of the leading opponents of the move by Kaul, claiming that it puts out of state interests ahead of the interests of vital Wisconsin industries. (RELATED: DOGE Member Beaten After Defending Woman in Attempted Carjacking in D.C.)
Kim Bremmer, Executive Director of Venture Dairy Cooperative, welcomed the court’s ruling, stating, “Today’s ruling moves us one step closer to holding AG Kaul accountable for his decision to cater to out-of-state interests ahead of Wisconsin citizens and businesses. We look forward to ending DOJ’s unlawful and harmful practices.”
