Wisconsin’s governor is on the record as against President Trump’s decision to federalize California’s national guard.

Evers signed a letter Sunday that take a hard stance against the president order to deploy guard troops to Los Angeles to restore order after a third straight day of angry protests.

“President Trump’s move to deploy California’s National Guard is an alarming abuse of power,” Evers and other Democratic governors wrote. “Governors are the Commanders in Chief of their National Guard and the federal government activating them in their own borders without consulting or working with a state’s governor is ineffective and dangerous.”

President Trump federalized 2,000 California National Guard members, mainly to protect federal buildings in L.A.

He called-up the guard after getting reports of attacks on ICE agents, as well as widespread violence. At one point Sunday, the Trump Administration talked about sending 500 Marines to Los Angeles as well. As of Monday afternoon, however, that has not happened.

“Further, threatening to send the U.S. Marines into American neighborhoods undermines the mission of our service members, erodes public trust, and shows the Trump administration does not trust local law enforcement,” the governors added.

Gov. Evers did not say anything about the letter, or anything more about his criticisms of the president either in-person or online Monday.

But Evers has never made his feelings on President Trump secret.

“Further, threatening to send the U.S. Marines into American neighborhoods undermines the mission of our service members, erodes public trust, and shows the Trump administration does not trust local law enforcement,” the governors said in their letter.

Gov. Evers was joined in signing the letter by the governors of Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Kentucky, New York, Maryland, Washington state, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Arizona, Oregon, Connecticut, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Delaware, Maine, New Jersey, Colorado, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina.
