Authorities confirmed that 22-year-old Tyler Robinson has been arrested in connection with the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Robinson was taken into custody in southern Utah on Thursday night, nearly a day after Kirk was killed during a rally at Utah Valley University.

Law enforcement sources told the Daily Mail that Robinson confessed to his father, Matt Robinson, who has served for 27 years with the Washington County Sheriff’s Department. The veteran deputy immediately notified investigators and helped ensure his son was safely detained.

The suspect’s mother, Amber, works in disability care through a state contractor. The family lives in a six-bedroom home valued at $600,000 and often shared personal photos online of vacations and celebrations, including Robinson’s college acceptance.

Robinson attended Utah State University on a scholarship and has two younger brothers.

While the motive has not been released, prosecutors said the case meets the criteria for the death penalty.
