The Green Bay Parks Committee has unanimously approved a major redevelopment of the Joannes Aquatic Center, advancing an $11.4 million plan to modernize and expand the city’s public pool space.
The upgraded three-part plan reflects a cost increase from its original $9.45 million estimate. The first phase, budgeted at $2.2 million, includes the addition of interactive water play features, a hammock garden, basketball hoops, and expanded shade structures.
City staff hopes to launch phase one construction as early as next year. In preparation, several new positions are expected to be posted and filled in the coming months.

“Doing an expansion like this opens the door to bring people in from the outside to broaden your revenue stream, so I’m in support of it, and I would love to see it get accomplished,” said District 10 Alderperson Ben Delie during Wednesday night’s meeting, according to WBAY.
With committee approval secured, the proposal will now go before the Green Bay City Council, which is scheduled to discuss funding at its next meeting on June 10.
The Joannes Aquatic Center redevelopment is seen as a key investment in Green Bay’s park infrastructure, with potential to increase community engagement and attract regional visitors.
