On Monday, the Green Bay Area Public School district heard options for their new superintendent search for the 2026-2027 school year. The office is currently held by Vicki Bayer, who was elected to the position by unanimous decision on December 9th, 2024.
Bayer, had been in GBAPS since 2013, and has been the interim-superintendent twice before. Bayer was named interim after her predecessor, Claude Tiller, resigned as he came under fire for making comments about a principal, including calling her a “wicked witch,” and using offensive slang to describe her. Tiller statements were caught on WAOK-AM in Atlanta while he was on a teacher recruiting trip. He also made stereotypes about the Nation of Islam, when discussing him having to “debunk microaggressions” before meeting with teachers.
Bayer was only elected by the school board to finish out the current year and complete the next one. The school board wanted time to explore all their leadership options for the 2026-2027 school year.
The school board also lost school board member Laura Laitinen- Warren on February 24th, as she resigned from her position. On June 11th, Laitinen-Warren was replaced by Samantha Meister by a 4-2 vote. (RELATED: Wisconsin Becomes Battleground for National Fight Over Parental Rights in Education)
