On Monday, the Milwaukee Brewers traded for Tampa Bay Rays catcher Danny Jansen. The move comes as a part of General Manager Matt Arnold and the Brewers move to reinforce the catching position after some instability this year.

Jansen was drafted right out of Appleton West High School in 2013. He was taken in the 16th round by the Toronto Blue Jays, where he would eventually make his debut in 2018.

Jansen spent six years with the Blue Jays, he was then traded to the Boston Red Sox in a trade-deadline move in 2024. He then signed with the Rays for the 2025 season, and was recently traded to the Brewers. (RELATED: Packers Reach Deal with Rookie Anthony Belton)

Jansen has been around baseball his whole life. The Jansen family hosted players for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, a minor league affiliate team in Appleton WI. Among the people to come through, most notable was Orioles outfield great Adam Jones. These players around 24/7 helped Jansen avoid the initial shock of professional baseball. The Brewers are trying to increase their depth at the catcher position as William Contreras is dealing with finger issues. Jansen, hitting just above .200, is a standout defensive catcher and proven to be a reliable back up for the Crew. The Brewers traded now 25th ranked prospect in the Ray’s organization, Jadher Areinamo.

The Brewers continue on to Washington D.C. to take on the Nationals after the pivotal early week series versus the Cubs.
