On the eve of Easter Sunday, four Democrat lawmakers from Wisconsin’s self-described “Legislative Socialist Caucus” used the power of the state to honor a pornographic content creator. The citation issued April 21, recognized Renee Olstead — a known OnlyFans model — for being named the 2024 Penthouse Pet of the Year, an award based on her work in nude modeling.
The citation was authored by Representative Ryan Clancy of Milwaukee and co-signed by Representatives Francesca Hong (Madison), Christian Phelps (Eau Claire), and Darrin Madison (Milwaukee). All four belong to the Socialist Caucus in the Wisconsin Legislature.
The timing alone was a slap in the face to Wisconsin families — the citation was delivered during Holy Week, one of the most sacred periods on the Christian calendar. But the controversy runs deeper.
Just weeks earlier, these same four lawmakers voted against a bill that would have protected minors from online pornography by requiring age verification for adult websites. That bill was designed to reduce the exposure of children to explicit content — yet it was rejected by the very legislators now publicly celebrating a pornographic performer.
In a now-public Instagram post, Olstead thanked the legislators, saying she was proud to “fight for SWer [sex worker] rights and decrim[inalization]” alongside them. The post was a stark confirmation of the political alliance between state lawmakers and the adult industry.
The following week, Renee Olstead and Rep. Ryan Clancy, protested the arrest of Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan who was arrested by the FBI on April 25, 2025, facing two federal charges: obstruction of a federal agency and concealing an individual to prevent arrest. These charges stem from an incident on April 18, when Dugan allegedly assisted Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, an undocumented immigrant facing misdemeanor battery charges, in evading Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at the Milwaukee County Courthouse.
State citations are meant to honor extraordinary contributions to the community — educators, veterans, local heroes. By issuing one to a Penthouse model, these lawmakers have debased that tradition, replacing civic dignity with political spectacle. For many Wisconsinites, this wasn’t just a lapse in judgment — it was a deliberate ideological provocation, carried out at the expense of the state’s moral credibility.
