Tom Tiffany says he wants to do more than just reopen Wisconsin for business.
Tiffany, who is running for governor in the Republican primary, says Wisconsin has to reverse eight years of damage from Gov. Tony Evers’ anti-business mindset.
“When you think about where is Tony Evers leaving us at this point, we are in the bottom 10 states for creating new businesses, bottom 10 state for the the number of new workers,” Tiffany said in an interview on News Talk 1130 WISN. “It’s because we’re headed in the wrong direction. We are highly taxed, and we are highly regulated.”
Tiffany pointed to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources as one of the worst offenders there.
“Because the Department of Natural Resources, more than any other agency, decides whether we have new businesses that come into Wisconsin,” Tiffany said.
He said environmental regulations, zoning questions, and even decisions over parking lots can and will go through the DNR.
Tiffany said the DNR is at the “top of his list” for agencies to reform. (RELATED: Churches Free to Endorse Candidates Ahead of 2026 Elections)
“They drive the expenses side of Wisconsin as much as any agency,” he added.
“We were about to crack the Top 10 best business states in America during Governor Walker’s second term. We had come from the bottom half to the top half, and now we are in the bottom 10,” Tiffany explained. “We need to turn that around and get Wisconsin back on the map. Because we’ve got a choice here. Are we going to be one of the Woke & Broke like Minnesota and Illinois, or are we going to be one of the prosperous States of America?”
Tiffany has already promised to freeze property taxes, and said he’s looking at possibly eliminating the income tax altogether.
Tiffany also said Wisconsin needs to do something about its housing affordability crisis. (RELATED: Wisconsin Rep. Tom Tiffany Launches Campaign for Governor)
