U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany formally entered the 2026 Wisconsin governor’s race on Tuesday, setting the stage for a wide-open contest as both Republicans and Democrats compete for the state’s top office.
Tiffany has represented the state’s expansive 7th District since 2020, after serving in both the State Assembly and State Senate. He has long highlighted his small-town roots — growing up on a dairy farm, earning a degree in agricultural economics, and later running a family-owned tourism business in northern Wisconsin. Supporters point to his mix of private-sector and legislative experience as a strength heading into a statewide campaign.
The race is open for the first time in 16 years following Gov. Tony Evers’ decision not to run again. Tiffany is the most recognizable Republican to join the field so far, alongside Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann and businessman Bill Berrien. On the Democratic side, Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, State Sen. Kelda Roys, and Rep. Francesca Hong have declared their candidacies.
Wisconsin is once again expected to be a battleground in 2026. Tiffany said he will campaign on conservative priorities while also seeking to expand his support beyond his congressional district.
