Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was shot during an appearance at Utah Valley University on Tuesday, school officials confirmed.
Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was about 20 minutes into his speech when witnesses heard gunfire from a nearby building. A university spokesperson said he was the only victim and was rushed away by his security team as the crowd was evacuated.
Social media videos captured the moment, showing Kirk slumping in his chair after the shot. Blood could be seen running down his neck as attendees screamed and scattered.
The FBI is responding to the incident. “Our thoughts are with Charlie, his loved ones, and everyone affected,” FBI Director Kash Patel wrote on X. “Agents will be on the scene quickly and the FBI stands in full support of the ongoing response and investigation.”
Vice President JD Vance urged Americans to “say a prayer” for Kirk, while Senator Mike Lee of Utah said he was “praying for Charlie Kirk.”
The Utah Valley University event was part of Kirk’s American Comeback Tour, a national speaking series promoting conservative values at college campuses.
This remains a developing situation with more updates expected.
