Wisconsin businessman Eric Hovde has pulled even in his race to upset two-term incumbent Democrat Senator Tammy Baldwin.
Baldwin, who has been an elected member of Congress dating back to the Clinton administration, is in a statistical dead heat with political outsider Hovde according to the latest poll from Emerson College and The Hill newspaper. The Hovde-Baldwin race is shaping up to be the toughest race of Baldwin’s career — and a major pick up opportunity for Senate Republicans interested in retaking the majority in the upper chamber.
“Under 70 days to go, our momentum continues to grow every day. We are going to WIN this, Wisconsin,” Hovde posted on his X account.
In recent days Baldwin has come under scrutiny for possible conflicts of interests and ethical issues involving her 6-year relationship with partner Maria Brisbane. Brisbane is a wealth manager for New York’s elite — boasting a book of business in excess of $1 billion and specializing in “tax minimization strategies” for her “ultra high net worth” clientele. Brisbane’s background features extensive investments in the biotechnology sector.
Baldwin, meanwhile, sits on both the Senate’s Health, Education, Labor and Pensions committee as well as the Senate Appropriations Committee’s subcommittee for Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies — presenting numerous opportunities for conflicts of interest between Baldwin’s professional and personal life.
